    Ukrainian Valerii Gorban wins Rally Talsi, Latvian Jānis Vorobjovs takes home the Champions Cup

    With ten special stages in Talsi and its region – Mordanga, Pastende, Mundigciems, and Strazde – the third round of the Latvian Rally Championship, Rally Talsi, concluded today. Ukrainian driver Valerii Gorban, co-driven by Estonian Sergei Larens (Eurolamp World Rally Team), won the event in a Mini John Cooper Works WRC. Second place went to Latvian crew Jānis Berķis / Edgars Čeporjus (Neiksans Rallysport, Ford Fiesta R5), while the top three was concluded by Estonians Ranno Bundsen / Robert Loštšenikov (A1M Motorsport, Mitsubishi Evo VIII). Meanwhile, Latvians Jānis Vorobjovs / Ivo Pūķis (Vorobjovs Racing, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X) won the prestigious Champions Cup, beating two other champions – Lithuanian Benediktas Vanagas and Russian Alexander Mikhaylov.

Rally Talsi also hosted rallysprint and historic crews, the latter of which were split into sport and regularity classes. All Rally Talsi results are available on autorally.lv HERE>

Special prizes were also up for grabs at Rally Talsi. Talsi city prize for the fastest time in SS6 / SS8 Talsi City Special was earned by Estonians Bundsen / Loštšenikov. Sponsor Neste special price for the furthest jump in SS2 / SS4 Neste was given to Berķis / Čeporjus, who made a 31m long jump, while sponsor’s Talce SC Grupa prize for the fastest total time in SS5 / SS7 Talce SC Grupa went to overall winners Gorban / Larens. The Rally Talsi official car rental partner’s Sixt special prize for the furthest jump in SS9 Sixt went to Oliver Solberg, Veronica Engan (Sports Racing Technologies, Peugeot 208 R2), who managed a 33m long flight. In addition to that, the top three crews of Rally Talsi also received prizes from a rally friend Flora, while rally friend Meža Dārzs’ sympathy award, that was awarded in co-operation with Husqvarna, was presented to Madars Dīriņš / Gints Lasmanis (Renault Clio).

Middle through the rally, Daņila Belokoņs / Toms Freibergs crashed and was taken to hospital for further inspections. Belokoņs has suffered a hand bruise and concussion, while Freibergs got through with just a scare.
